| Young Master is very polite nowadays. He says "Nanks, Mommy (or Daddy, or whoever)" when it's appropriate. He'll also respond with "Welcome" when you say thank you to him. Sometimes he forgets and says "Welcome" when he means to say thank you. Very cute. We recently got a new van, so now just about every time I strap him into his carseat he proclaims, "Fun, Mommy, fun!" His vocabulary and sentence structure are just growing exponentially. I know I say that in almost every post, but that's how it seems. He's got an absolutely infections chortle of laughter when something cracks him up. We gave him a buzz haircut a couple of days ago and it makes him look incredibly grown up. And it also emphasizes how much his ears stick out! GG was expressing herself about something the other day, I can't remember what, and was not happy with how she'd said it. She stopped said, "Wait. Let me rephrase that." She's heard me say that quite a bit, I suppose. Having kids really makes you realize how much they hear and retain! She and her daddy surprised me with "Mamma Mia" the other night. We've been listening to our Abba Gold cd quite a bit recently, and GG informed me as she went to bed the other night that she had "Winner Takes It All" running through her head. Oops--time for me to change cds! We took GG to see "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" on Easter weekend. She did amazingly well, and loved every minute of her first professional theatrical experience. Now she is begging to go to see a show again. We're hoping to make that an annual experience. It will be a while before Young Master joins us, though. | | |
| Young Master was throwing a small temper tantrum today--we were in the car headed home after church. He kept insisting, "No want it! No want it!" (We're still not quite sure what he didn't want.) Anyway, his sister got frustrated and finally said, "You don't have it!" As with all my Xanga posts, this loses some of the comedy in translation. It's so hard to accurately portray these little gems as they actually are. For me, anyway. But it's still another fun addition to the Crews Family Electronic Baby Book! | | |
| I discovered tonight when I was saying good-night to Young Master that his version of "I love you" is more accurately "Yah you." Sounds a little more sophisticated. | | |
| As a long-time college basketball fan, I've really been enjoying all the tournament coverage I've been able to see over the last couple of weeks. (Enjoying it less since my team lost, but that's another story.) Particularly that first weekend when you can see what seems like a million games for four days in a row. But I didn't realize exactly how much basketball I'd been watching (and the kids had seen) until tonight after dinner. GG saw a commercial for AT&T. She murmured absentmindedly, under her breath, "AT&T...at the half." I nearly had to sit down, I was laughing so hard. You see, for those of you who don't watch the NCAA tournament, the halftime coverage during the games is sponsored by AT&T, and the commentators are constantly saying things like, "Stay tuned for AT&T at the half," and "Welcome back to AT&T at the half." I had no idea she'd assimilated all that! So after I stopped laughing, GG was so pleased with herself that she decided to continue the fun, her way. She came up to me and said, "That's my talent, you know." When I asked her what it was, she responded, "Playing basketball." Then she ran over to her dad, laughing her head off, telling him, "I played a joke on Mommy! I made a joke!" Young Master has enjoyed the games, too. He cheers impartially for whichever team makes a basket, shouting "Yay!" and pumping his fists in the air. When a shot is missed, he yells, "Miss!" and grins at me. He's been practicing his shooting skills, too. He throws the ball at the little dangly thing that hangs from the wind chimes, and hits it fairly consistently. We've decided a basketball hoop might be a good investment. We went on a walk this evening to enjoy the lovely cool weather. Young Master passed the time by stepping on sticks and shouting "Got it!" He also thought every small clump of mown grass we passed was a turtle. GG bounced along, informing us that we needed to "frolic and sing in the sun!" Young Master's vocabulary continues to improve by leaps and bounds, although he's still got a long way to go. He's just recently started saying "Ah oo" to us. Translation: I love you. It's very sweet, and I felt very special that he was telling us that! Then I discovered that he'll tell just about anybody that he loves them, from the mailman to the cashier at Walmart. Oh well. I guess it shows his loving heart. As I write this, GG is reading aloud what I've written. Now I can't write whatever I want in front of her--she'll figure it out! I'll close for now--gotta get clean undies out of the dryer so my kids can get to bed! | | |
| Yesterday we stopped by my husband's place of employment to drop something off to him. While there one of my husband's coworkers stopped to chat with us, asking GG her age, which she of course answered with alacrity, and asking Young Master his age. GG jumped in and answered for him. The gentleman asked GG if she always spoke for her brother. She laughed and answered, "No, he says words, like Bob." At this point Young Master decided he needed to contribute his own input, so he said emphatically, "Water!" GG laughed again and explained, "He chats." It doesn't sound quite so funny written down, but it was hilarious to hear. My husband has had to work late for the last two nights, as well as leave early in the morning. The kids have been missing their dad. As we were leaving his work yesterday afternoon, my husband had to head off to yet another function, and we were going home. Poor Young Master didn't understand why Daddy wasn't coming with us. As my husband walked away, Young Master melted down in a flood of tears, saying "Want it Daddy!" It was so sweet! He's been saying "Want it!" quite vehemently lately, whenever his little will is crossed about something he wants, so it was neat to hear him say it in a better way. Let's see...a few days ago Young Master gave a rather large burp. He's always delighted with himself when he does that, and then he'll go on to a series of fake burps. He also cannot tell the difference between a burp and a toot, calling them both burps. Anyway. After the large burp, we asked him, "What do you say?" Expecting him to say excuse me, of course. He looked at us and grinned the biggest grin and said, "Big big burp!" I know I've mentioned it in my last couple of posts, but I'm so excited about GG's reading. I was really terrified that I wouldn't be able to teach her. And we still have such a long way to go, so I hope her rate of progress keeps us. But it's so much fun to hear her reading to herself, or to hear her read aloud a book she's never seen before. I can't claim much credit for her reading, because we're using a really easy learning system that she enjoys doing. I can't wait until she's ready to read The Chronicles of Narnia and Anne of Green Gables. But then again, maybe I can. She's growing too fast already. | | |
